The Insurance Authority (IA) expresses deep condolences to victims of the fire at Wang Fuk Court in Tai Po and extends heartfelt sympathy to their families and the injured, while doing its utmost to coordinate the insurance industry in providing support and assistance to those people who are affected.
For this reason, the IA has set up a task force led by senior management to press ahead with the work carried out by relevant insurers and ensure that adequate resources are deployed by the industry to handle enquiries and claims.
Mr Stephen Yiu, Chairman of the IA, said, “Functioning as a stabilizer for society, insurance must provide emergency assistance when serious events emerge. I am aware that the insurance companies have taken immediate contingency measures after occurrence of the fire, set up dedicated hotlines, streamlined and sped up claims procedures, and offered additional assistance beyond the policy coverage to help those people who are affected overcome their difficulties.”
The IA will maintain close liaison with the Hong Kong Federation of Insurers (HKFI). Members of the public may wish to contact the HKFI or the IA through the following hotlines for any enquiries that they may have:
