Fraudulent payment requests purporting to be made by Insurance Authority

27 June 2023

The Insurance Authority (IA) today (27 June 2023) alerted the public to bogus payment requests purporting to be made by the IA. It has recently come to the IA’s attention from a public enquiry about a suspicious invoice with IA logo and stamp requesting payment for an “Insurance Bond Certificate”.

An IA spokesperson stated that the IA never issues any invoice in relation to anything named “Insurance Bond Certificate”. All fees and levies that the IA collects are set out in the IA website .

If members of the public receive any suspicious payment requests claiming to be made by the IA, they should verify the documents by contacting the IA via its general enquiry hotline at 3899-9983 (select language, then press “1” > ”0”). Anyone suspecting a scam can report the case to the Police via their “Anti-Scam Helpline 18222”.
