Insurance Authority in support of the Government in granting vaccination leave

31 May 2021

The Insurance Authority (IA) announced today (31 May 2021) that in support of the Government in encouraging more people to undergo inoculation, its staff will be granted paid leave for taking the COVID-19 vaccine. Furthermore, similar measures are also being rolled out by stakeholders in the insurance industry.

“The citizens of Hong Kong are eagerly awaiting for an early resumption of their daily lives and a speedy rebound of the economy. Early vaccination is the only effective means of achieving this outcome. I am glad that the Government is taking the initiative to grant vaccination leave for civil servants and would like to urge insurance practitioners as well as members of the general public to protect themselves by taking early action,” said Dr Moses Cheng, Chairman of the IA.

With effect from 1 June 2021, all staff of the IA will be entitled to receive one day of paid leave each for taking the first and second dose of COVID-19 vaccine. The arrangement will be applied retrospectively to those who are inoculated before this date.
