The Insurance Authority (IA) today (7 May 2019) alerted the public to a fraudulent website with the domain name of “http://platinum-internationally.com/”. The aforesaid website purports to be the official website of two authorized insurers of Hong Kong, Prudential Hong Kong Limited and Prudential General Insurance Hong Kong Limited. Both companies have confirmed that they have no connection with the fraudulent website.
The case has been reported to the Hong Kong Police Force for further investigation. Anyone who has provided personal information to the website or has conducted any insurance transactions through the website should call Prudential Customer Services Hotline at 2281-1333 (Life Insurance) or 3656-8362 (General Insurance and Employee Benefits), and report the case to the Cyber Security and Technology Crime Bureau of the Police at 3661-7607.
Any company carrying on insurance business in or from Hong Kong must be authorized by the IA under the Insurance Ordinance (Cap. 41). The full list of authorized insurers in Hong Kong can be found on the Register of Insurers on the IA website.
