The Insurance Authority (IA) today (8 April 2019) alerted the public to two fraudulent websites with the domain names of “http://www.prudemtial.hk” and “http://www.prudentials.hk”. The aforesaid websites purport to be the official websites of two authorized insurers of Hong Kong, Prudential Hong Kong Limited and Prudential General Insurance Hong Kong Limited. Both companies have confirmed that they have no connection with the fraudulent websites.
The case has been reported to the Hong Kong Police Force for further investigation. Anyone who has provided personal information to the websites or has conducted any insurance transactions through the websites should call Prudential Customer Services Hotline at 2281-1333 (Life Insurance) or 3656-8362 (General Insurance and Employee Benefits), and report the case to the Cyber Security and Technology Crime Bureau of the Police at 3660-7315.
Any company carrying on insurance business in or from Hong Kong must be authorized by the IA under the Insurance Ordinance (Cap. 41). The full list of authorized insurers in Hong Kong can be found on the Register of Insurers on the IA website.
