Insurance Authority to host the inaugural Asian Insurance Forum to explore future opportunities for the insurance industry

5 November 2018

The Insurance Authority (IA) will organise the inaugural Asian Insurance Forum (AIF) on 11 December 2018 in Hong Kong. The AIF is a high-level platform for international and local financial regulators, industry leaders, academics and professionals to exchange views on the direction and strategies for the future development of the insurance industry, with a special focus on the Belt and Road Initiative and the Greater Bay Area Development.

Prestigious speakers at the AIF include Mrs Carrie Lam, Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region; Mr Paul Chan, Financial Secretary; Mr Rimsky Yuen, former Secretary for Justice; the incumbent and the former Secretary General of the International Association of Insurance Supervisors; and chairmen and chief executives of global insurers. They will share their insights with the over 500 local and overseas forum participants from different segments of the insurance world and related sectors.

Dr Moses Cheng, Chairman of the IA, said, “Asia is widely recognised as the main driver of global economic growth in the next few decades, offering enormous potential for the insurance sector. How to tap into this wave of new business opportunities and derive optimal benefits for society is a pertinent and pressing topic.”

“With our free and open economy, sound legal system, simple tax regime, quality professional services and unrivalled geographical location in the heart of Asia, Hong Kong is well positioned to be a global risk management centre and regional insurance hub. Playing the dual role of regulator and market facilitator, the IA will strive to pursue new opportunities for, and facilitate the sustainable development of, the insurance industry in Hong Kong,” Dr Cheng added.

A live webcast of the AIF will be available online on the event day. Please visit the AIF website to learn more.
